- Bell-shaped pulse
The NBU-1508 discharge circuit is designed to simplify the development of solid-state laser systems. The module utilizes complete discharge of a relatively small capacitor bank (a typical value is 100 uF), which, together with an external inductor, forms short (tens to hundreds of microseconds) bell-shaped pulses on a flashlamp and provides simmer current during the interval between pulses. Typical applications: Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers or similar systems. By default, the NBU-1508 includes capabilities both for series and external triggering.
The flashlamp operating frequency can be varied using a +5 V TTL signal sent from an external control device to the respective pin. The pulse duration is defined by the capacitor discharge time, which depends on the L, C and flashlamp parameters. Please, ask us for details if needed.
The module includes a thyristor, its driver, protective circuits, simmer and trigger circuits and control electronics. It also contains a fan for active cooling.
It’s important to emphasize that the NBU-1508 is not a stand-alone solution. It requires a capacitor charging power supply, an external inductor and capacitor bank, an external control device to start pulses, an external +24 V DC power supply, as well as some minor parts and controls to operate properly (see also the picture below).
An important feature of the NBU-1508 is the clear and visible separation between the low-voltage and high-voltage parts. The 24 V power input and all interface circuits (SIM and PWF) are separated from the high-voltage circuits by a 4 mm creepage distances and solid insulation to 2500 VAC test voltage (1 MOOP/MOPP).
Some modifications are available on request. We have also IGBT models, which form quasi-rectangular pulses 2 kW NBU-1112 discharge circuit and 4 kW NBU-1312 discharge circuit.
