The FLD-nano is a compact but powerful flashlamp driver (flash lamp power supply). It was designed for air-cooled flashlamps, flash lamp tubes, similar to the one depicted below.
The driver charges an external capacitor bank up to the required voltage and then, following an external TTL signal, initiates discharge by applying a trigger pulse (400 V by default) to the flashlamp. One can see the recommended flash lamp tube circuit layout below:
The FLD-nano requires a +24 V DC power supply and a pulse generator to set the operating frequency.
It is possible to program the output voltage level within the working range either manually (via the onboard configuration trimpot) or remotely (by applying a DC voltage to the respective pin). The driver’s maximum output power can be reduced, if needed, using the onboard trimpot.
Two different operating modes are available:
- manual mode, when the output voltage level is regulated using the onboard trimpot. The flashlamp operating frequency can either be set automatically in autorun mode or regulated (via an external pulse generator or a button);
- using a controlling device, when output voltage level is varied by applying a DC voltage to the corresponding pin. Other functions (Enable, TTL) are also can be controlled by this device, depending on the user’s system configuration.
To calculate pulse energy delivered to the lamp, peak current, and the voltage across the lamp at the end of the pulse, please refer to our calculator page.
